## What Is Chimney Stack Removal and Who Needs It?
Chimney stack removal involves taking down the chimney brickwork from above the roofline, capping the remaining stack below the tiles, waterproofing the area, and retiling to create a seamless roof surface.

This service is needed when a chimney is no longer in use and is causing problems — most commonly damp penetration through deteriorating mortar joints.

Chimney removal is also appropriate when the stack is structurally unstable, leaning, or showing signs of brick spalling.

We carry out chimney removals across Newport, Cardiff, Cwmbran, Chepstow, Pontypool, Caerleon, and the wider area.

## The Hidden Damage a Redundant Chimney Causes
A chimney stack that's no longer connected to a working fireplace still absorbs water. Rain penetrates through cracks in the mortar, causing damp patches, black mould, and stained plasterwork.

Many homeowners spend hundreds re-decorating rooms affected by chimney damp, only to see stains return within months.

Structurally compromised chimneys pose a safety risk. A chimney stack typically weighs 500–1,000kg.

Maintaining a redundant chimney costs money every few years. Removing it eliminates all recurring costs permanently.

## How Chimney Removal Works: Materials, Methods, and Considerations
The first decision is whether to remove only the stack above the roofline, or to also remove the chimney breast inside.

We take down the brickwork course by course, starting from the chimney pot and working down to approximately 150mm below the tile line.

The remaining brickwork is capped with engineering bricks laid on a waterproof DPC membrane.

Retiling around the chimney removal area requires careful matching of existing tiles or slates.

For properties where the chimney breast is being removed internally, we install a gallows bracket or steel beam.

All chimney removal waste is removed from site and disposed of responsibly.

Lead flashings around the former chimney position are removed and the area is retiled to form a seamless surface.
